West Indies Coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 in the Squad - Cricket News Update
The reigning head coach of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket team, Ottis Gibson, fears that sidelined opening batsman Chris Gayle may no longer have a potent role in the national team.
Gibson, who is looking to revamp the West Indies team, wants new working ethics to be introduced in the national squad, for which the presence of the flamboyant Gayle might be a hindrance.
It is well-known that the two don’t see eye to eye and the presence of both in the national team may cause more problems than ever before.
However, the left-handed opening batsman has insisted that he still wants to represent the Caribbean but was disappointed by the way his feud with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has been handled so far.
Last week, the 31-year-old, announced that he was considering quitting West Indies cricket to play for another country. He also accused Ottis of turning against him and blamed his country Jamaica for not showing interest in resolving his differences with
the cricket board.
Meanwhile speaking on the issue of Gayle, the head coach Gibson said, “It’s a board matter now. It’s got nothing to do with me anymore. We had a meeting last weekend. Chris knows my stance. If he has come out and made these statements it’s up to him. The
board knows what my feeling is on the whole thing. We are trying to build a team a team that can get competitive.”
Problems between the hot-headed Gayle and the WICB erupted earlier this year, when he was not selected for the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. WICB had dropped Gayle on fitness issues. However, the hard-hitting batsman insisted that he was fit enough.
Subsequently, without informing the board, the bulky West Indian departed for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to take part in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The batsman exhibited commendable form in the fourth
season of the Indian league where he was nearly invincible.
However, the batting sensation clarified that the behaviour of the WICB left him with no option but to join the IPL. Speaking on the matter in an earlier interview, he said, “I was actually forced to make this decision based on what was happening around
me and based on what has happened to players - (Ramnaresh) Sarwan and (Shivnarine) Chanderpaul."
The decision by the batsman was not taken lightly and the WICB reacted strongly against his hasty departure to play the IPL for the sake of money, instead of staying back home and making himself fit enough for future national commitments.
