Earlier, while announcing WICB’s contract list for the tenure from 1st October, it was revealed that former skipper, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and, Narsingh Deonarine have been axed from the contract list of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) owing to their unsatisfactory fitness. While fast bowler, Jerome Taylor, was cut from the contract list due his limited availability following his back injury. Taylor’s alleged questionable approach to rehabilitation of his back injury added further to his exclusion from the list.
In a press release, WICB has shown its concerns over Ramnaresh Sarwan’s fluctuating fitness levels. A statement released by the board read that the WICB, selection committee and the team management are concerned about Ramnaresh’s extremely apathetic attitude and intermittent approach towards fitness specifically in the recent past.
After consulting specialists in the team management, the selection committee concluded that Sarwan’s fluctuating and unsatisfactory fitness levels have directly contributed to various injuries in recent years. That makes him unavailable for the selection to the national cricket team of West Indies.
Ramnaresh Sarwan, who recently suffered from a hamstring problem, has not donned whites since 2009. His last Test performance came on 4th December 2009 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751. The former skipper of West Indies collapsed meekly against better sides.
The statement from WICB has also shown its disappointment over slow rehabilitation speed of Jerome Taylor. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 also suffered injuries during the tour of Australia late last year. His injuries got aggravated during ICC World T20 Championship 2010. According to the West Indies Cricket Board statement, Taylor lacked commitment to his own rehabilitation despite being under retainer contract. It was further revealed that Jerome had not shown the expected commitment and attendance to follow the necessary evaluation.
The statement further read that, the board has explained to Taylor that his physical form needs a precise plan of fitness to ensure his availability at the international arena and avoid recurrent breakdowns. But no such demonstrated commitment came from Jerome that he can achieve desired level of fitness or perform constantly at the highest level.
The statement also revealed that an official notice was sent to Narsingh Deonarine regarding his unsatisfactory attitude towards fitness and training but no improvement was shown by the player. Level of fitness of Deonarine is disappointingly unacceptable for an international player. Various fitness tests were conducted by the fitness experts of team management and Deonarine’s results were regrettably under the weather. Numerous opportunities were given to Deonarine but he has continuously shown crass ignorance for his fitness. Team management has pleaded Narsingh with beseeched and cajoled to recover his general fitness but to no purpose.
Alongside these three players, Danesh Ramdin and Travis Dowlin were also dropped from the contract list owing to their poor performance. As per selection committee’s opinion, the performance of these two players has been less than favourable in the last year.
There was good news for Barath, Pollard, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Shillingford-c89689, Darren Bravo, Nelon Pascal and Nikita Miller, who were given their first central contracts. The players who have not been added in the contract list can still play for national side but without a central contract.
