West Indies Cricket Board wants to pick young players
According to the Chief executive of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Ernest Hilaire, they will give chances to young players to get international experience, in order to strengthen their pool for the Twenty20 World Cup 2014 and the ICC World Cup 2015.
He was speaking to the media after West Indies dropped their senior players Chris Gayle, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073 and Ramnaresh Sarwan from the team for the first two ODIs against Pakistan.
As per the WICB chief senior players have not been dropped permanently, and board is looking to support their senior members.
Meanwhile, they need to have deepness in the national team. If they will keep relaying on one, or, two players they cannot have success so that’s why the board is going to rebuild the team to win the event in 2015.
He said; "There is no indication that any player has been axed. The selectors will explain to every player how they fit into the plan. There is no inherent right for players to play every match".
Hilaire stated that Gayle has to pass the fitness test, as he got injured during the World Cup 2011. Furthermore he cleared that the policy to include young players was only in ODI and Twenty20 formats and there would be different approach for the Test side.
West Indies started giving a chance to young players back in October 2010. They kept this policy for the mega event, as West Indies selected Darren Bravo, Andre http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Russell-c87177, Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach and Devon Thomas.
The decision to rely on young players has provided them significant results, as all of them played well under pressure. The chief executive is expected to pick more players like them at the international level.
He added; "We cannot keep seeking quick-fix solutions to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket. We need a structured approach. We are making a heavy investment in cricket development. Lots of investment in youth programs. You need long-term plans. You do not become world
beaters overnight. You need to build a winning environment".
West Indies had shown unsatisfactory recital during the World Cup. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 knocked down the Caribbean side comprehensively in the quarter final of the event. After evaluating this terrible performance West Indies has dropped Gayle, Chanderpaul and Sarwan
from the squad.
