West Indies Cricket - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dinanath-Ramnarine-c54129 allegations
The West Indies captain, Darren Sammy, made it clear that he never tried to influence the Windies players in their decision making.
Sammy stressed that he never dispirited the West Indies players from attending the awards ceremony organised by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Players Association (WIPA) last week.
"I wish to make it abundantly clear to the public that at no time did I discourage, dissuade or in any other way seek to influence any player's non-attendance to the recently-held WIPA awards function", said Sammy, while talking to the media reporters adding
that it was players’ own decision not to attend the event.
Sammy’s statement has come in the wake of allegations set against him by the President and Chief Executive of West Indies Players Association (WIPA), Dinanath Ramnarine, that the West Indies skipper had discouraged some domestic players from attending the
recently held WIPA awards.
Ramnarine, in a radio interview, had alleged Sammy for being influential in the regional Caribbean cricketers and had said that the players did not attend the event on the advice of the St Lucia all-rounder.
The Caribbean skipper elaborated that it is not in his nature to influence his teammates while deciding over attending such award ceremonies insisting that those, who know him as a person can attest to this.
The 27-year old right arm medium pacer also missed last week’s Players’ Association awards but he clarified that he did not attend the event due to some personal reasons.
Giving the details, Sammy said that the WIPA President called him on the phone and said that he was sending a car to pick the Windies skipper up. The all-rounder further added that he wanted to tell Ramnarine that he would not be able to come but the latter
hung up the phone without waiting for a response from him.
"I was unable to contact him to explain that I would not be able to attend as I had previously indicated to him", he added further.
Sammy took over as West Indies captain from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 in October last year following the latter’s differences with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) after turning down the central contract. The St Lucia all-rounder has been appointed as the Windies
skipper until end of the Digicel Series 2010.
