Windward Islands 98/8 (20/20 ov) v Jamaica – Jamaica require 99 runs to win in 20 overs
In the first semi-final of the ongoing Caribbean T20 tournament, Jamaica require 99 runs to win the match against Windward Islands at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, January 21, 2012.
After winning the toss, Windward Islands chose to bat first, aiming to score a big total in the crucial match to earn a place in the final of the tournament.
However, their plans suffered a hiccup when with only seven runs on the board they lost the wicket of opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miles-Cameron-Bascombe-c76296, who missed an opportunity to score in the most important match of the tournament as he was dismissed on nil.
Number-three batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ADS-Fletcher-c940, also fell without scoring a run at a time when his side had amassed only 12 runs on the board. With two wickets down, the batting side was certainly in a spot of bother, while on the other hand, Jamaica were right at the top as their bowlers and fielders were putting enormous pressure on Windward Islands.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DS-Smith-c1403 then tried to bring some stability in their batting line-up as they tried to forge a potent resistance against a raging bowling attack.
However, with 33 runs on the board, it was time for Windward Islands to lose their third wicket as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 found his way back to the pavilion after playing a cameo innings of six runs.
Charles then followed suite as he lost his wicket after scoring 29 runs, at the time of his demise the side had posted only 36 runs on the board.
It was then time for wicketkeeper/batsman, Lindon James, to take the lead as he crafted a handy partnership with fellow batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Liam-Andrew-Shannon-Sebastien-c72857.
The duo steered the side to 76 runs before Sebastien lost his wicket after scoring 11 runs. The demise of this wicket trigged another batting collapse as the remaining batsmen were dismissed cheaply one after the other.
However, James kept his nerve and carried the Windward Islands batting by staying unbeaten on 37 runs as he helped his side post 98 runs in 20 overs.
From Jamaica, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Krishmar-Santokie-c71724, Sheldon Cotterrell and Odean Brown grabbed two wickets each.
Jamaica now do not need to take too many chances while chasing this meagre total in a bid to secure their place in the final of the tournament.
