Sagicor High Performance Centre 176 v Jamaica 178 - Jamaica won by 1 wicket (with 1 ball remaining)
Jamaica won the 2nd semi-final against Sagicor High Performance Centre by one wicket in the ongoing Regional Super50 one-day tournament on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
After winning the toss, Sagicor High Performance Centre chose to bat first in a bid to put enough runs on the board to give their bowlers a fighting chance against a very formidable Jamaican side.
However, Jamaica made early inroads by grabbing the wicket of right-hand opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Krishmar-Santokie-c71724.
Santokie then sent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nkruma-Eljego-Bonner-c79781 packing after the batsman had managed to post only a run off two deliveries.
Before the batting side could recover from the loss of two quick wickets, 26-year-old Santokie struck again and this time the phenomenal pacer dismissed 21-year-old opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NO-Miller-c2125 after scoring 13 runs off 21 deliveries.
At this point in time the situation was getting out of hand for Sagicor as they needed to halt the Jamaican bowling onslaught to put a respectable total on the board.
It was then a resilient effort from middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sharmarh-Shaqad-Joshua-Brooks-c89779 that countered the opposition as the batsmen played shots on merit without losing nerve.
This was exactly what was needed from the batsmen as there were plenty of over in the match for the batsmen to play shots later in the innings.
The duo posted 49 runs in the fourth-wicket partnership to take the sting out from the bowling attack of the opposition and managed to provide stability in the team to avoid a complete meltdown.
However, Sagicor suffered another disaster in the batting line-up when Thomas fell after scoring 33 runs and Brooks found his way to the pavilion on 20 runs.
However, some last ditch heroics from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Veerasammy-Permaul-c94981 and Keron Cottoy saved Sagicor from total annihilation as the duo posted 57 runs in the 8th wicket-partnership, helping their team in posting 176 runs on the board.
With a meagre tally at hand, Jamaica had a fancy chance of going through to the final by successfully chasing the target.
The Jamaican batting line-up exhibited good cricket as all the batsmen prevented the opposition bowlers from dominating them in the match.
From Jamaica, middle-order batsman Jermaine Blackwood was the highest scorer with 31 runs to his name while skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 could only bolster six runs before finding his way back to the pavilion.
Jamaica won the match in 49.5 overs as they scored 178 runs. K Santokie was named as the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance with the ball as he bagged three wickets in 12 overs with an economy rate of 3.41.
