West Indies’ Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo turn down Central Contracts - to focus instead on domestic leagues
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket following the footsteps
of Pollard and Bravo. Both the all-rounders turned down the contract offers with WICB as they are confident that they will have opportunities to play in various leagues of other countries.
A few days back, they were both offered a one-year central contract each by the West Indies Cricket Board. The contracts, worth US$80,000, were conditional with full-time availability of the players for the West Indies cricket team, while turning down their
commitments with other counties, clubs and franchises. But both the players, Pollard in particular, showed reluctance to the requisite of the contract, owing to their individual commitments with English counties and IPL.
Pollard, in June, had also turned down a spot in the one-day squad of West Indies A-team that was due to travel to England, owing to his deal with Somerset for the Friends Provident T20. Rangy backed the board’s condition. "If you are under contract by the
WICB they could prevent you from playing in other tournaments because they are paying your salary," Nanan told the media persons.
It was on 31st August 2010 when 25 West Indies players were offered central contracts. Except Pollard and Bravo, all the 23 others have showed willingness to sign it. Like other cricket boards, WICB also offers contracts of three different grades
to its players – Grade A, B and C.
According to Nanan, only two cricketers- Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul- had been offered the Grade A contracts. He suspected that this might also be a reason behind Bravo and Pollard’s turning down the contracts as they might have felt that they
can earn more by playing in different leagues than what the board has to pay them.
The duo recently gave some good performances for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 and Somerset.
All these sides reached at least the semis of their respective T20 championships, to some extent due to the performances of these two West Indian players.
The pair has also been picked up by the Trinidad & Tobago for the upcoming domestic limited-overs tournament but Rangy Nanan feels that Dwayne would instead opt to play the five-dayer if he gets selected. The 23-year-old Pollard, who is yet to make his Test
debut, has faced questions in the past as well regarding his desire to play the longest version of game but the former fast bowler of West Indies Ian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishop-c48135 has his hopes attached with the skills of the emerging player. Bishop believes that Kieron has the
skills to make a big impact in Test cricket.
