West Indies Player Association hails Government intervention in WICB-Chris Gayle dispute
WIPA, the West Indies Players’ Association, has appreciated Caribbean Community (Caricom) for taking initiative to resolve endless dispute between West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), and, the Jamaican all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221.
Caricom, a Caribbean federation, consists of 10 states, decided to intervene in the matter after Gayle’s recent statement in which he asked the government to get involved.
To resolve the conflict, the governing body of cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and WIPA recently negotiated but the meeting ended without any result. Reacting to the situation, Caricom, decided to interfere in the case to resolve it as early as possible.
In a media statement, the players’ association not only thanked Caricom for taking initiative but also hoped that the situation will soon improve.
The CEO and President of the association, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dinanath-Ramnarine-c54129, said, "WIPA is pleased that Caricom has heeded the call by Chris Gayle to intervene. Chris made a telling point which we see that the Heads of Government have picked up".
The conflict was initially perked up by the West Indian national selectors as they overlooked Gayle for the recent series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, arguing that the opening batsman preferred the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) over serving his country.
In reply, Gayle made a series of statements, slamming WICB for excluding him from the side without any reason.
Matters started going out of control when WICB stirred up the controversy by ignoring Gayle for the ongoing series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. With increasing media-hype of the conflict, the government finally decided to play an active role since the controversy has a negative impact on national cricket.
Besides appreciating Caricom for its recent step, the Players Assocation criticized the Board’s biased policies, saying that the cricket administrators want to establish their kingship in the matters of the game.
"West Indies cricket is bigger than the WICB. West Indies cricket belongs to the people of the region and not a miniscule group of administrators who want to dictate to everyone. We fully support the move and will do all we can to make it succeed in its desire to put our cricket on a firmer foundation", added the statement issued by the players’ association.
