“Stafanie showed today why she is among the best in the world at the moment and rated among the best women who have played international cricket,” said Aguilleira, following the culmination of the match at the Galle International Stadium on September 30. “She led the way with the ball and came back to finish the job with the bat. She's a class act and always gives her all for the team.”
Taylor made her debut for the national side in June 2008 at the age of 17, and has since gone on to emerge as one of the team’s brightest talents, with 1927 runs and 61 wickets from 49 ODIs, and 1005 runs and 42 scalps from 39 T20Is to her credit.
The 21-year-old was awarded the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year award at the annual ceremony, held in Colombo this month, and is also ranked at number 2 on the ICC’s list of Women's T20 all-rounders.
She has gone on to prove her prowess in the ongoing Women’s World Twenty20, 2012 – in the three matches the West Indies Women have played in the tournament so far, Taylor has bagged 6 wickets, and contributed a total of 71 runs.
She also played a crucial role in the team’s most recent match, against the South Africa Women, which propelled the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Women to the tournament semi-finals.
Taylor, who won the Player of the Match award, set the tone for the game after the Windies Women won the toss and elected to field, attacking the South Africa Women with her deadly off-spin. She bowled 4 overs for just 10 runs, and claimed a total of 3 wickets.
She was aided by leg-spinner Shaquana Quintyne (4-1-14-2), and the spin attack restricted the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 Women to 70 in 20 overs.
“We know that they fancy pace on the ball and like the ball coming onto the bat,” Aguilleira observed in reference to the Proteas Women’s batting techniques. “We decided to change the normal game-plan and force them to go for shots by using our slow bowlers.”
Taylor followed up the impressive bowling performance by top-scoring for the team with an unbeaten 33, and her 71*-run opening stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Juliana-Barbara-Nero-c69633 (30*) got the team safely over the finish line, with 10 wickets and 62 balls still remaining.
