West Indies Women in India: West Indies seal opening one-day by 9 wickets
Anisa Mohammed’s four-wicket haul well complimented by Stafanie Taylor’s sparkling 85 helped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 women kick-start their tour of India in an emphatic style in Mumbai. The tourists chasing 162 to win in the opening One Day International,
cruised to an easy victory with only one wicket down at the Bandra Kurla Complex, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on Monday, January 10, 2011.
Off-spinner Anisa Mohammed scythed through the Indian batting line-up to bundle the hosts out for a below par 161 before the opener Stafanie Taylor blazed away with the bat to take her side home in the 37th over with nine
wickets intact. Taylor struck an unbeaten 85 runs laced with ten well timed boundaries.
India women, after opting to bat first, began reasonably well with openers Poonam Raut and Anagha Deshpande setting a solid start of 45 runs. The wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Deshpande-c53821 departed in the 17th over after being trapped
leg before off Deandra Dottin at 21.
At 71 for 1, it seemed the hosts would set up a competitive total but Anisa struck twice in successive overs to remove opener Poonam Raut and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s
best batsmen and their early sacking meant the visitors set a target not too difficult to chase. India women further dented when the 22-year-old off-spinner from Trinidad inflicted more blows to the middle order of hosts.
Harmanpreet Kaur tried to earn her side some normalcy but failed in her efforts as wickets clattered at the other end and the whole team was bowled out in the last over with 161 on the board. Kaur scored 32 runs plundering five boundaries.
Poonam Raut top scored with 72-ball 33 while six of the Indian batsmen succumbed for single digit scores. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915, who finished with
2 for 20 from 8 overs.
The tourists lost Juliana Nero quite early in their chase with only 25 on the board but Taylor shared an unbeaten stand of 137 runs with Shanel Daley for the third wicket to take her side to a comfortable 9-wicket win with plenty of
overs to spare.
The second one-day of the five-match series will be played in Vadodara on January 13, 2011.
