http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board on Thursday announced its 13-man squad for the first two One Day Internationals of the five-match home series against Pakistan, starting on 23rd April in Gros Islet.
Three of the senior most and experienced players including, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and hard-hitting tall batsman, Chris Gayle have been excluded from the squad to give young players a chance.
A press release from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said the selectors have chosen the squad based on a mix of youth and experience.
"Consistent with the policy to expose young players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073, Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan were not selected," a WICB release stated. “The time has come for us to introduce a fresh crop of players who we believe
have a deep desire to excel and who can be tested at the international level," it read further.
The WICB chairman of selectors, Clyde Butts said the selection panel has settled on a combination of players who will take the team through the next 5-10 years. He described the 13-man squad as a youthful, but exciting blend of exceptionally
talented players and hoped they would win matches for the country.
Darren Sammy has been retained as the captain of the West Indian side. Trinidad all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo, who was forced to fly back home in the midst of the recently concluded World Cup with an injured knee, has been called back
and appointed as deputy to Darren Sammy. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anthony-Martin-c45051, another promising young leg-spinner, is the only uncapped player in squad.
Besides Chanderpaul, Bravo, and Sarwan, the selectors have also overlooked left-arm spinners, Nikita Miller and Sulieman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Benn-c47745. West Indies spin brigade includes the likes of rookie leg-spinner, Devendra Bishoo, Anthony Martin, and
Marlon Samuels.
The WICB members agreed on the decision to review the selection of prolific all-rounders, Kieron Pollard and Darren Bravo across all formats of game and emphasized the players would have to prefer their national duty over their commitment
to the Indian Premier League.
