http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358, the West Indian cricket coach, has said that the win in the opening One Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh has boosted his team’s confidence dramatically.
The Caribbean Kings thrashed Bangladesh by 40 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at Mirpur on October 13, 2011. Batting first, the visiting side posted a massive total of 298
on the board, thanks to a brilliant century by the opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LMP-Simmons-c1843.
In reply, the Bengali Tigers could only manage to pile up 258 at the end of 50 overs and let the Windies take a 1-0 lead in the competition.
It was a welcome victory for the West Indian team, as they came into the ODI series after suffering an embarrassing three-wicket defeat in the one-off Twenty20 contest.
Gibson admitted that the team’s self-belief was on the lower side after the humiliating loss in the T20 encounter, but claimed that the ODI triumph has infused a new life into the camp.
“This tour of Bangladesh is tough and we are gearing ourselves up for it, strengthening our team and making sure everyone is in top form. Obviously we are a bit disappointed at losing the
T20, but Thursday our focus was back and it has given us a lot of confidence,” said Gibson on the eve of the second ODI, set to be played at the same venue on Saturday, October 15, 2011.
Talking about the Windies’ strategy for the next two games, the coach shared that the ultimate goal will be to seal the series 3-0, adding that the guys are also confident of doing equally
well in the remaining matches of the tour.
“We've started this series positively and the boys are even talking about what they need to do to win the series. Thursday's win has put the opposition under pressure and a couple of more
victories will see us clinch the series,” added the 42-year-old coach who has represented the West Indian side in a couple of Tests plus 15 ODIs.
