West Indies captain Darren Sammy feels England will have more pressure – ICC World Cup 2011 news
West Indies cricket team captain Darren Sammy said on Wednesday that pressure would be more on England as they play the Twenty20 World Champions in their penultimate group game of the ICC World Cup 2011 in Chennai on Thursday.
“It's a big game for England and they have do to all the running,” said Sammy while addressing the pre-match media conference. “We are treating it like just like any other game. For us it's all about focusing on our plans and executing them to perfection.”
West Indies have so far played four games winning three of them and stand third in Group B while England after winning two matches and tying one with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 have five points in their account and stand fifth in the group.
Thursday’s game would be a must-win clash for England as a defeat against West Indies would eliminate them from the competition while West Indies will still have a game in hand. Therefore, Sammy feels the must-win approach would put Andrew Strauss and his
men under pressure.
When asked about his personal form, the 27-year-old St Lucia batsman agreed that he has been struggling with the bat in the past few fixtures but was confident of performing in the upcoming games.
“I am aware of my batting woes,” said Sammy. “In this tournament, every game we've had someone step up to the occasion, so hopefully it will be me in the coming games. It's not a big concern for me, after all you are only one performance away from turning
things around.”
When asked about the Chennai wicket, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 captain had a bit of laugh as he said it was a ‘typical Indian wicket.’ Sammy said that the wicket did not have a covering of grass and reckoned it would be a batting friendly track.
The Windies received a huge boost ahead of Thursday’s crucial game when their explosive opener Chris Gayle was declared fit by the team physio. Sammy was also pleased at Gayle’s return and said that it would be a big boost for them.
