Geared up for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2013, the West Indies coach, Ottis Gibson, has vowed to deliver the goods in the mega event and revealed that the aim of his side is to play the final of the tournament.
The illustrious event is going to start with the opening fixture between India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Cardiff on June 6, 2013.
West Indies, under the captaincy of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and the coach thinks that the victory has instilled immense self-belief in the side, which should be handy for the Champions Trophy as well, although the islanders
will be led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379 in the upcoming tournament.
The Caribbean men are placed in group B of the tournament along with South Africa, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Pakistan. Taking into account the strength of the latter two teams, the coach revealed that the team management may opt to play an additional pacer.
“Winning major events gives the confidence,” Gibson said. “There will be some pressure of course, but the fact that we have won the last major event means that we get confidence from it also, and there is a lot of belief among the players. We might want
to play an extra fast bowler or whatever the case may be.”
According to most experts, group B is the tougher of the two pools in the event and it is going to be extremely tough for West Indies to qualify for the semi-finals. Gibson however, has a lot of faith in his boys and feels that his team possesses the potential
to lift the trophy.
“Getting out of the group is our first challenge and getting to the quarter-finals and semi-finals, and then our aim is to be playing on the 23rd, in the finals. I think we have a pretty good record in finals,” the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 fast bowler added.
Bravo and company will play their opening fixture of the tournament against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at the Oval on June 7 for what should be a mouth-watering encounter especially because both sides have abundance of raw talent.
