The West Indies coach, Ottis Gibson, has praised the rookie leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo for the maturity he has shown in his game since debuting in International cricket.
The 25-year-old Guyana-born, who made his International cricket debut in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011, returned with four wickets in the first innings of his maiden Test against Pakistan, helping his side roll the visitors out for 160 and hand
a 66-run lead to the West Indies.
Bishoo’s 4-wicket haul set the platform for the 40-run win in the opening test of the two-match series at the Guyana National Stadium.
"Judging from his debut in the World Cup a few months back, he has showed signs of being a very intelligent bowler," Gibson said while talking to the media reporters. "He showed he has the ability to handle himself when he's put under pressure, and that's
a very good sign," the Windies coach added further.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 became Bishoo’s first Test victim when he was trapped, leg before wicket.
Bishoo then went on to remove Asad Shafique, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Salman-c77287 and Umar Akmal, on his way to 4 for 68 in a spell of 25 overs.
Gibson said that the left-hander was defending a below par, 226-run total in the first innings but he never looked nervous, rather he had been very adaptable and handled the situation very well.
He admitted that the young http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 came quite hard at the leg-spinner, but he was happy the way Bishoo responded. Gibson also praised Bishoo’s strategy of varying his pace to trap Akmal.
What made Bishoo’s maiden Test appearance extra special was the presence of his home crowd.
"I wanted to do well," said Bishoo. "Here at home, a lot of people have been giving me great support, so I wanted to get wickets as my way to say thanks,” he added.
He said that his first wicket was a relief as he opened up his Test account. Bishoo said that getting Misbah trapped was a great feeling as he was the main batsman in the side.
