West Indies cricket - Lessons learnt against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 – Part One
India’s limited overs squad has reached the Caribbean Islands to take part in a T20 and a series of five One Day Internationals (ODI) this month against a young West Indian team.
After a fighting performance against Pakistan in all the formats of the game last month, this is going to be an uphill battle for the home team against the world champions. India has been playing very good cricket since last couple of years in both limited
overs cricket as well as the longer version of the sport. On the current form, India is surely going to start the series as favourites.
Apart from the lack of good performances in the field, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 is not selected
for the initial two ODIs against India because the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) wants to have a meeting with him first.
It is not just about Gayle, WICB is having a conflict with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 as well. Both took part in the later stages of the series against Pakistan and the cricket fans witnessed a polished batting performance by West Indies
after the inclusion of these senior players. However, the recent controversy of Chanderpaul has put a huge question mark over his future.
Chanderpaul claimed in the media that he has been asked by WICB to retire from international cricket. The left hander believes that he has some cricket left in him and he should be allowed to serve the Caribbean cricket.
The Caribbean team struggled against Pakistan because their senior players were not there to take the responsibility. WICB is making the same mistake once again as they should solve the matters with the senior players as soon as possible because West Indian
cricket is struggling in the absence of senior players.
With every passing season, WICB is becoming a dummy cricket board and the cricket officials are failing to take the Caribbean cricket on the right track. They made a mockery of themselves during this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as match-winners like
Gayle, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379 were playing for their respective franchises while the West Indies was struggling against Pakistan back home.
However, there are some positive signs for Caribbean cricket as some of the youngsters have performed exceptionally well in the series against the Green Shirts. The emergence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LMP-Simmons-c1843 as a solid opening batsman is one of the biggest positives for
West Indies as he showed amazing mental strength and natural talent against Pakistani bowling attack, which is considered as one of the best in the business.

Apart from Simmons and Bravo, Devendra Bishoo and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233 have also been extremely impressive with the ball. The performance of these youngsters augurs well for the future of West Indies cricket but it is very important for the cricket officials in
the Caribbean to not to forget the senior players.
To be continued in part two …
