West Indies crush http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by 10 wickets in 5th ODI at Providence, Guyana
PAK 139 41.2 overs W1 140/0 in 23.3 overs
Amid reports of a rift between Coach Waqar Younis, and, Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in the fifth and final One Day International (ODI) of their series, at Providence in Guyana.
Team sources claim that the two men at the helm of the team had a serious rift over the selection of the team and it was only due to the intervention of Team Manager, Intikhab Alam, and senior players, that Afridi led the team in the match.
Afridi was reportedly incensed by Waqar’s intervention in selection issues and wanted to sit out the match before giving in to the manager and senior players.
On the field the thus far dominant Pakistani team suffered due to a hostile spell of fast bowling by Ravi Rampaul, who was well assisted by his captain, Darren Sammy. The two combined to skittle out the Cornered Tigers for a paltry 139 on a two paced wicket.
Rampaul claimed 4 wickets, including 3 in his second spell to leave the visitors reeling. On the other hand Sammy chipped in with 3 wickets of his own, while Dwayne Bravo returned figures of 2 for 16 from 5.2 overs.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Hafeez, was the only batsman to offer any resistance. He followed up on his brilliant ton in the fourth match of the series with a well made 55 before being undone by a ball that kept low.
The chase of 140 runs could have been a tricky one for the hosts considering the nature of the wicket. However, an aggressive onslaught by in-form, Lendl Simmons, took the team towards their target with consummate ease.
The right hander smashed 3 sixes in his unbeaten 77, while his opening partner Kirk Edwards chipped in with an unbeaten 40 to help his partner in the coast towards the target.
The match was over in the 24th over of the innings, as the hosts avenged their 10 wickets drubbing to Pakistan in the quarter-finals of the ICC World Cup 2011 last month.
