West Indies in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758: Darren Sammy happy for 0-0 draw in the Test series
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 captain Darren Sammy was happy after an inexperienced West Indies team managed a stalemate in the three-match Test series against Sangakkara’s men despite of hindrances caused by persistent showers.
"When we left, we said we will settle for a draw or a win. Despite the weather, which has been totally out of our control, the one Test match where we had five days of cricket (Galle Test) we basically dominated," Sammy said.
Off the total three Test matches, only the first one played at Galle International Stadium could see scheduled five-day game while rest of the two were ruined by the heavy showers coming on and off. Sammy said that the start stop situation
becomes frustrating at times as the players prepare themselves for a game but get distracted due to the rain. The West Indian skipper, however, did opine that “as professionals, you do a job whenever you are called up."
The 26-year-old all-rounder said that the series has brought a lot of positives for the inexperienced West Indies side and they would build on these positives for their future assignments. Sammy heaped praises for the debutant Darren
Bravo who struck half-centuries in all the three Test matches.
"Young Bravo scoring fifties in all three Tests. The bowling of Kemar Roach, the batting of Chris Gayle and the whole fighting spirit the team showed are positives for us throughout the series," said the visiting skipper.
The right-arm medium pacer from St Lucia, who was standing in his maiden Test series as captain, said that before leaving for Sri Lanka he was expecting the Test series to be quite tough but the players made his job quite easy with
outstanding individual performances as well as a dazzling team effort. Sammy, despite of praising his side for drawing Test series against one of the top three sides said that there is still a lot to work upon.
"The cricket we played there were a lot of positives but there is still a lot of room for improvements. I am learning to do my job efficiently and I would like to see personal improvements."
The Young West Indian skipper - who was given the responsibility of leading the side after Chris Gale, the regular captain, was removed from his role for turning down the WICB contract - said that the next target of the Caribbean boys
would be to win the five-match ODI series which begins in Hambantota on 9th of December.
