West Indies likely to recall Samuel Badree against New Zealand – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, in Kandy, on Monday, October
1, 2012.
Badree, the 31-year-old Trinidad leg-spinner was dropped for the last game against Sri Lanka in favour of fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fidel-Henderson-Edwards-c57010. The Caribbean side was soundly beaten by the hosts with a nine-wicket margin, and the Barbadian seamer also failed to impress,
conceding 24 runs in his short spell of two overs.
With a win and a defeat in two matches played in the Super Eight stage so far, the men from Caribbean are currently ranked third in the Group 1, and face a must win situation going into Monday’s encounter against New Zealand. The West Indies team management
is contemplating over recalling the Trinidad leg-spinner to partner with mystery spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 against the Black Caps, who usually struggle against spin.
“There's a bit of possibility that Badree could play. It's horses for courses. If it is dry like it is (now) on Monday he stands a good chance of playing,” said Sammy during a media encounter after a practice session at Pallekele, on Sunday.
West Indies, after coming into the Super Eight stage winless, courtesy weather gods, defeated England by 15 runs before facing a nine-wicket crushing at the hands of home side.
New Zealand, on the other hand, are yet to register a win in the second round. They lost their match against Sri Lanka in the one-over eliminator, before losing to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 by six wickets.
But Darren Sammy is not taking the bruised and battered Black Caps lightly, and urged his players to be at their best on Monday.
The St Lucia all-rounder also observed that the wickets in Sri Lanka are becoming more spin friendly as they are heading towards the business end of the tournament. However, he said that they are prepared to adapt to such conditions.
“At the start of the tournament the ball was coming through but as the tournament went on we expected the pitches in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 to have low and slow turn type of wickets,” said the 28-year-old right-arm medium pacer. “We have enough experience in the dressing
room to adapt to such conditions,” he added further.
