West Indies missing Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell, in first Test against India – Cricket News Update
The management of West Indies cricket team has again left out top players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379, for the first home Test against India. The three-match Test series will start on June 20, 2011, at the Sabina Park.
The Windies have just finished up the 5-match ODI series, losing by 3-2.
Despite hard-pressing demands by cricketing circles of the country, the team selectors have not even bothered about their reliable and hard hitting batsman, Gayle.
The West Indian dynamite has been out of his national squad since the end of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board (WICB) and players shifted the blame
of team’s demise on him.
Gayle was first dropped for the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, resultantly, the Caribbean lost the event. Dejected by this disrespect, Gayle opted to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL)-4.
This step created rifts between him and the WICB, which accused him of defying the board’s rules and regulations to play in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The bulky West Indian finished up the league as the highest scorer with 608 runs and was hoping to play the next home series against India, but the selectors kept ignoring him.
Gayle’s meeting with the board officials on June 14, 2011, was anticipated to bring a breakthrough but all went wrong as both the parties could not reach a patch up.
Now, the 31-year-old has been put on backburner again and is highly distraught by the discriminatory treatment.
The left-handed all-rounder has been in the International arena since 1999. He has played 91 Tests, 228 ODIs and 20 T20Is along with resplendent records in domestic cricket. His batting average in Test cricket has been 41.65, an excellent one by an opener.
Apart from Gayle, the selectors have also not reconsidered Dwayne Bravo, the middle order batsman, for the first Test. Bravo opted for rest after playing the initial two ODI games against India.
Moreover, the all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Dwayne-Russell-c44235, is not with the team either.
Both India and West Indies are in practice nets to prepare for the first 5-day game.
