West Indies name WICB President's XI squad for tour-game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 – Cricket News Update
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Saturday named its 12-man WICB President's XI squad to play on-tour New Zealand cricket team, in a three-day warm up match, starting at North Sound, on Friday, July 20, 2012.
West Indies A team captain Veerasammy Permaul will skipper the side, with the squad including some experienced players from the national team, the likes of veteran left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Test opener Adrian Barath and batsman
Kirk Edwards.
Edwards had a nightmarish http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 itinerary after being named as skipper Darren Sammy’s deputy for the tour, scoring just 20 runs from eight innings. He will be eager to impress the selectors before they meet to pick up a squad for
the first Test against the Kiwis, which gets underway at North Sound next week.
Hard hitting middle-order batsman from Trinidad, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386 failed to make the cut for the tour game against Kiwis, as he is yet to fully recover from the groin injury he had sustained last month.
The 23-year-old left-hander, who has been one of West Indies’ leading run scorers over the last 12 months, was ruled out of the away ODI series against England after picking up a groin strain in the series opener at Lord’s.
Darren, who is also the half brother of all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379, has played 19 Tests for West Indies so far, averaging 44.37 with bat. The past year saw the Trinidadian compiling a tally of 949 runs from 10 Tests at an average of
around 50, including three centuries as well. However, he has had a struggling tour of England, where he could manage only 75 runs from four innings.
Left-handed batsman Kieran Powell’s superb performances for the A team against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 A last month earned him selectors’ nod for the tour game. Guyanese left-hander Assad Fudadin also succeeded in making the cut for the warm up fixture.
The three-day match, played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, will be the only practice game for the Black Caps, ahead of the first Test, starting on July 25 at the same venue.
