There remain no major surprises to the squad with all players having played for the national team in at least one format of the game. Three players however, have yet to make their T20 debuts – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Shillingford-c2397, Tino Best and Kieran Powell – but have been
drafted into the preliminary list.
The major recall comes for spinner Sulieman Benn, who had been omitted from the national team setup after the World Cup 2011 where the management was highly critical of his off-field behaviour. The 30-year-old however, was in impressive form for the West
Indies A side, which recently battled the touring Indians.
He will still face stiff competition from the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869, Devendra Bishoo, Samuel Badree and Shillingford, all of whom are vying for the spinner’s slot in the side.
The Windies are touted as favourites for the tournament, owing to the power packed top and middle-order, comprising of IPL specialists in Gayle, Pollard and Dwayne Bravo. All have been in hot form this current year, which includes an impressive T20 stint
in the season five of the lucrative tournament, along with helping the national team achieve their first serious ODI triumph in four years – winning the recently concluded home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 by a 4-1 margin.
The Windies are in Group B, where they will battle the Aussies and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751, starting their campaign against the former on September 22. The current squad will need to be cut down to 15 before August 18.
