West Indies name squad for 2nd T20, Darren Bravo overlooked - Cricket News Update

The West Indies Cricket Board selectors, on Wednesday, announced the 13-member squad for the second and last T20 of the two-match series against Australia to be played at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown on Friday, March 30, 2012.

The out-of-form Trinidad middle-order batsman, Darren Bravo, failed to make the cut for Friday’s second T20 as the selectors called in Jamaican all-rounder Danza Hyatt.

Darren Bravo, the half brother of West Indies vice-captain, Dwayne Bravo, has had a struggling home series against Australia so far. In the 2-2 drawn five-match One Day International series against Aussies, Bravo could manage only
48 runs at a an unimpressive average of 9.60. The unimpressive ODI series was followed by a 12-run innings in the opening T20 of the series at St. Lucia, earlier this week, which the hosts lost comprehensively by 8 wickets.

The Windies are desperate to have struggling Bravo back in form ahead of the three-Test series against the same Australian opposition, starting on April 7 at Bridgetown. In a bid to regain the lost form ahead of the crucial Test series,
Bravo has been sent back to domestic cricket where he will play for Trinidad & Tobago in the semi-final of Regional Four-Day tournament, starting this weekend.

The Trinidad left-hander holds an impressive record in Test cricket where he averages 52.50 in 13 appearances. In his 24 Test innings, Bravo has compiled a tally of 1155 runs, including three centuries and six half centuries.

After overlooking fast bowler Fidel Edwards for the first T20, the hosts are likely to include him in Friday’s Playing XI. The Barbados right-arm pacer possesses the kind of pace that could trouble Australian batsmen if he hits the
right line and length. However, the Windies vice-captain and Darren Bravo’s half brother, Dwayne Bravo said that the structure of the attack would depend mostly on selectors.

All-rounder Andre Russell, who strained his right hamstring ahead of the first T20, has also been ruled out of Friday's game.

West Indies squad Dwayne Smith, Johnson Charles, Nkrumah Bonner, Danza Hyatt, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Marlon Samuels, Carlton Baugh (wk), Darren Sammy (capt), Sunil Narine, Fidel Edwards, Krishmar Santokie,
Garey Mathurin.
