West Indies name squad for Sri Lanka ODIs
The West Indian side for the ODI series against Sri Lanka has been named and Darren Sammy will continue to lead the side. Sammy is the captain of the Test match side as well after Chris Gayle wasn’t afforded the job because he refused to sign the central
contract.

Some of those making a comeback to the 15-member squad are the likes of opening batsmen Adrian Barath and Devon Smith and the wicket-keeper Carlton Baugh. Kirk Edwards, a batsman who has yet to play international cricket, has also been selected. The Barbadian
played for West Indies A side against Pakistan A on their just-concluded Caribbean tour.

The selectors have continued to keep Ramnaresh Sarwan out of the side after he wasn’t picked for the Tests against Sri Lanka. Sarwan wasn’t afforded the central contract either. Without being picked for these ODIs, it remains highly unlikely that Sarwan will
make it to the World Cup squad.

The bowling department sees a drastic change from those who played in the first couple of Tests. Edwards will be there as a part-timer while Ravi Rampul and Nikita Miller will join the team for the ODIs. Kemar Roach continues to lead the pace attack. Sulieman
Benn was sent off from an ODI by the then-captain Chris Gayle for disciplinary reasons.

According to the West Indies selector, Courtney Browne, "These are the last ODIs before the World Cup, so we expect the players to make the most of the opportunities."

The series starts from December 9 and the first ODI will be played at Hambantota. Hambantota is one of the new grounds that will host a World Cup match.

West Indies squad: Darren Sammy (capt), Carlton Baugh (wk), Adrian Barath, Darren Bravo, Sulieman Benn, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Nikita Miller, Kirk Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell,
Devon Smith
