West Indies off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Shillingford-c89689 suspended by the ICC due to illegal bowling action
The latest international player to come under the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) scrutiny for a suspect bowling action is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 off-spinner Shane Shillingford.
The 27-year-old Dominican was reported for an illegal elbow extension on November 20 this year in a Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. He was reported by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Steve Davis as well as TV umpire Asad Rauf.
"A comprehensive analysis revealed that his mean elbow extension was 17 degrees, which is above the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the relevant regulations," said the ICC, adding, “Shillingford can now apply for
reassessment of his action after he has modified his bowling action in accordance with clause 2.4 of the regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.”
This suspension, however, does not mean that he cannot be selected to play for his national side. He can still represent the West Indies as a batsman and a fielder in the squad.
ICC’s bowling analysis was overseen by Prof. Bruce Elliott, who is a member of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865.
The off-spinner made his Test debut on 10th June this year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. This suspension comes as a major blow to the West Indian, who has performed tremendously well since breaking into the cricket world. The
youngster has managed to take fourteen wickets in only five Test matches.
His best record so far includes four wickets for 123 runs against Sri Lanka. The spinner was aiming to mesmerize everyone in the World Cup with his bowling as he had already been named in the thirty-member preliminary squad by
the West Indies for the 2011 World Cup.
This suspension puts Shillingford among the ranks of Shoaib Akhtar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157, who were reported for suspected bowling actions early in their careers but later managed to get themselves cleared. Shillingford can also
get this suspension lifted if he manages to satisfy the ICC regarding his bowling action.
