The destructive opener said that he wanted to play international cricket but unfortunately he is playing the Indian Premier League instead.
Gayle was sacked from captaincy in 2010 after the left-hander refused to sign a central contract with the West Indies Cricket Board, though he was kept with the team until the boys from the Caribbean failed to impress at the ICC World Cup
2011 in the Subcontinent.
Because of the poor showings in the mega event, the WICB decided to go with young blood in the series against Pakistan and dropped senior players like Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073.
The left-hander said that he would have preferred international cricket if he was picked for the national team and is only playing the IPL after his exclusion from the West Indian team. Gayle feels that he should not have been dropped from
the national team but it is part and parcel of international cricket.
Gayle said, “It was to be international cricket for me. Had I been picked, that would have been what I would have done. I didn't have any thoughts about IPL4. I had written off IPL4, rather I was looking forward to its next year. I should
have been there (in the West Indies) playing with the national team, but I am here. It is unfortunate but that is how it is.”
He further added that playing in the cash rich League is a huge opportunity in itself and he wants to prove his worth in the fourth edition of the IPL. The hard-hitting opener claimed that he has been warmly welcomed by the players and
the management of the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“An opportunity presented itself, so I am here now to actually do what I can. I have got a good welcome from each and everyone, the players, the owners, and management staff,” said Gayle.
Gayle is without doubt one of the best batsmen produced by West Indies in recent years and it is a pity that he is not representing his country at the highest level.
