West Indies overcame Kenya by 61 runs in the ICC World Cup 2011 practice match played at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo.
Kenya won the toss and elected to field first. The Windies reached 253 in their allotted 50 overs courtesy a brilliant century from the veteran Ramnaresh Sarwan. In reply, Kenya were bowled out for 192.
The wicket did not have too much assistance for the bowlers, although there was some movement off the track with the new ball.
The West Indian innings was started by Devon Smith and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Barath-c42094. Smith got out without scoring any run and Barath also failed to capitalise on the start he got. He was dismissed for 17 runs off 25 balls.
The one-down batsman Darren Bravo was also not in a good touch and threw his wicket away after scoring just 12 runs.
This brought two of the most experienced cricketers in the West Indies team, Sarwan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073 at the crease. However, Chanderpaul wasn’t able to support Sarwan and was dismissed after a struggling knock of 7 runs from 26 balls.
West Indies were in deep trouble as they had lost four wickets for just 65 runs in almost 20 overs.
Dwayne Bravo and Sarwan rescued their team from trouble with a solid 94-run partnership. Bravo got out after scoring a brilliant innings of 54 runs from just 56 balls.
The lower middle-order failed to score runs, but this didn’t bother Sarwan. The veteran scored 123 runs off 125 balls before he was finally run-out off the last ball of the day.
Thomas Odoyo and Steve Tikolo used their experience and took wickets for their team. Odoyo finished with 3 wickets in the match while Tikolo ended with 2.
The start to the Kenyan innings was a good one. Although the underdogs lost only one early wicket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Collins-c51521 Obuya constructed a solid 70-run stand for the second wicket.
However, Kenyan middle-order failed to take advantage of the platform laid by their top-order batsmen. Obuya top scored the innings with 68 runs for his team whereas Waters scored 43 runs.
Apart from them, no other batsman looked promising and Kenya were dismissed after scoring 192 runs in 45.3 overs.
The West Indian pace attack was too hot to handle for the Kenyan batsmen. Andre http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Russell-c87177 took 4 wickets for his team and he received good support from Kemar Roach, who dismissed 3 batsmen.
