West Indies sink to lowest position as Bangladesh move up in ICC ODI rankings
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 sunk to their lowest position in the latest International Cricket Council’s (ICC) One Day rankings.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, have risen up the order bagging the eighth spot in the rankings.
The Bengali Tigers' current camp strengthened their position as they moved one position up, ahead of West Indies, as the latter’s recent defeat against Sri Lanka contributed to the team’s slip to ninth position.
West Indies had a terrible run of one-day games since August 2008. They have not defeated a Test team in a One Day contest since June 2009. The West Indian cricket had also suffered from a contract crisis since 2005 but the situation flared up with isolated
strikes and in July 2009, the entire Test team decided to pull out of a home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. Since then, the team had produced some great individual performances but had failed to perform as a team.
However, the Bengali Tigers certainly got a boost ahead of the World Cup, since their elevation comes after two series wins in 2010.
A relatively young and inexperienced Bangladesh team managed to shock the cricket world by wiping a 4-0 whitewash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045,
in December 2010.
Bangladesh will be buoyant by the rankings as both of the wins in 2010 were stamped on home grounds and the country will also be co-hosting the cricket extravaganza from 19th of February, 2011.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 managed to defend their number one position after convincingly winning the recently concluded seven-match series against England. Australia thumped England 6-1 in their own backyard and the series win assured that they remained 12 points
ahead of second-placed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
India also defended their second position; raking 119 points with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 (118) who are tussling for the second spot. The Proteas remain in the fourth spot even though
they won the ODI series 3-2 against India in January 2011.
