West Indies’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 asks batsmen to lift game – Cricket News Update
West Indies’ skipper Darren Sammy has admitted that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 played better cricket in the first Twenty20 of the two-match series at the Kennington Oval, London on Friday, September 23, 2011.
Sammy appreciated the effort of his opening batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johnson-Charles-c69060, but was unhappy over the collapse of the middle-order.
The all-rounder stated, “We got a great start from our openers but we let England back into the match and they took it from us. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 played well on his return to the team and Charles did a good job in his first opportunity to give us the sort of start we
were looking for. When we get such a great start we have to capitalise.”
The West Indian captain further added that Twenty20 cricket was not only about hitting boundaries, but the batsmen need to work the ball arounr for ones and twos.
He mentioned, “We get too many dot balls when we bat so we will keep working to correct that. In limited-overs cricket it is not just about the boundaries.”
England’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465, put the opposition into bat after winning the toss.
However, the decision did not seem like a good one, as the Caribbean openers put on 51 runs at the top of the order.
Smith was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after contributing a quick fire 33-run knock to the total. His opening partner also looked impressive on his debut, scoring 36 runs in his outing.
However, the middle-order of the team saw a terrible collapse with the last seven wickets falling for just 21 runs.
The Windies’ innings was wrapped up on 125 with two balls wasted. Apart from the openers, only http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danza-Pacino-Hyatt-c52396 managed to reach double figures, collecting 28 runs.
England’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373 was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 4/10 in the match.
The hosts’ openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206 had no problems while chasing the target, as they reached 128 in 15.2 overs. Both remained unbeaten on 62 and 58 respectively, guiding the team to a 10-wicket win.
