West Indies sneak past Pakistan by Duckworth Lewis method in 4th One Day match at Barbados
PAK 248/9 50 overs WI 154/4 29.5 overs D/L method
Pakistan lost the fourth ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at the Kensington Oval stadium in bizarre fashion as intermittent rain spoiled an enthralling contest between the two teams.
West Indies were chasing a revised target of 223 runs in 39 overs, placed in a tricky situation at 154/4 in 29.5 overs, when the match was interrupted for the fourth time due to rain. It started to rain heavily and the match was awarded to the hosts who
were one run ahead of the par Duckworth http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lewis-c72807 score at that particular point in the innings.
Interestingly they needed to be 153/4 at the completion of the 30th over. After the first three balls they looked in trouble as dark clouds closed in on the ground. They were rescued by a long-hop bowled by Pakistan’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, deposited
into the stands for a mid-wicket boundary by Dwayne Bravo.
If the match would have continued normally, the Men in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723 would have been favourites to pull off their fourth consecutive win, given the fragility of the West Indian lower order and the control that the spinners had over the batsmen when the rain resumed.
Earlier http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 was helped by a sparkling hundred by Mohammad Hafeez as they posted a competitive total of 248 which earlier looked set to be around the 275 run mark but a late order slump restricted it to 248.
Hafeez scored 121 runs, now his highest ODI score, yet the middle order crumbled in a heap towards the end of the innings against some inspired bowling by leg-spinner, Devendra Bishoo.
The match was reduced to 39 overs after an hour long break at the start of the West Indian innings due to the rain. The hosts lost Kirk Edwards in the first over of their chase.
However sparkling 76 off 70 balls by the man in form, Lendl Simmons, kept them in the game. Darren Bravo chipped in with 21 runs while Ramnaresh Sarwan, recalled after a disappointing World Cup, played a crucial innings of 28 off 56 balls.
Pakistan’s debutant seamer, Tanvir Ahmed, was carted all over the park in his first spell but he came back to grab Simmons’ wicket, shortly before the heavens opened to settle the score.
