West Indies tour of England: Andrew Strauss breaks the jinx by belting a century at Lord’s – Cricket News Update
England’s Test skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, was finally able to get the monkey off his back, as the left-hander belted a century on day-two of the first Test match being played against the West Indies, at Lord’s cricket stadium, London.
Strauss reached triple figures for the first time after spending 18 months in the bewilderness. The left-hander has now matched the legendary batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-c60529 Gooch’s record of 20 Test centuries for England.
The skipper of England was relieved to end his run drought with a century. Strauss admitted that he was due for a big one and his performance in the past twelve months has been an utter disappointment.
The left-hander further said that clinching the last fifteen runs of his 20th Test ton were the hardest mentally, as he has not been in such a situation for quite some time.
“Having not scored a hundred for a while, there was a bit of pressure on me to go out there and get some runs for the lads. The last 15 runs or so were quite hard work mentally, because I hadn't been there for a while. It was a
great feeling of relief to finally get those three figures. It was a really special moment,” said the 35-year-old batsman.
This is not the first time in Strauss’ cricketing career that the left-hander has gone through an extended lean patch. Strauss underwent a similar phase some four years ago and he bounced back from that by scoring 177 runs against
the New Zealanders.
Strauss still holds dear that knock of his, as it saved his career. However, the English skipper reckons that same was not the scenario against the West Indies.
He said, “The Napier one, I was standing right on the edge of a precipice there. I needed to get runs that game; otherwise, it was P45 time. I didn't think I was in that situation today. But it's always nice to get a bit of a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Holly-Louise-Colvin-c63292
off your back.”
Strauss, who was still at the crease at close of play with 121 runs to his name, has not only broken the jinx but the left-hander has also set England on the right path. The Poms now lead http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 by 16 runs with seven wickets
in hand.
