http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 has unveiled a new look squad which will take part in the one-off T20 match against World Cup semi-finalists Pakistan.
The match is being played at St.Lucia and will kickstart the Pakistan tour which will also include five One Day Internationals and two tests against their hosts besides the one-off T20 match at Gros Islet.
The match would be played on the April 21 and is set to provide exciting and enthralling cricket for the passionate fans of the game in the island who were heart broken at the meek capitulation of their team in the World Cup.
The West Indies went down unceremoniously against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and England.
They only managed to make it to the knockout round of the tournament after beating lowly http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753, the major worry for them is their form against the leading teams in the world who have had the upper
hand against them.
The team for the T20 game comprises youngsters who have been given an opportunity to play at the highest level in the absence of leading players like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo who have all opted to represent their
franchises in the lucrative Indian Premier League set to start across India tomorrow.
The West Indian selection panel has drafted in right handed batsman Marlon Samuels who was offered a place in the West Indies World Cup squad, but declined it on the grounds that he was not ready for the challenge after being in the
wilderness for more than two years.
The talented middle order batsman was hailed as a real talent before lack of discipline and allegations of spot fixing tarnished his career, he scored a sublime century against Pakistan in an ODI match in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Multan-c819 in 2006-07 and would
hope to repeat the heroics against the same team.
He spoke to West Indian media after he got the nod for the match, he hoped that he would become a part of the plans for the Islanders in the ongoing season and make an impact against Pakistan.
Samuels also stated that he was looking forward to wearing the West Indian kit again and giving his cent percent to the team.
"I'm a batsman that can turn it up and turn it down, and at this moment, it's definitely a wonderful feeling heading back to putting on the maroon colours and wearing the coconut on my chest," Samuels was quoted in
WI Cricnews.
He added that he had the ability to shift gears in limited overs cricket and that ability would hold him in good stead on his return to international cricket.
"I'm looking forward to turning it up again in Twenty20 and turning it back down in 50-overs cricket, and maybe Test cricket to come. I've put in a lot of work and I'm just reaping the rewards at the moment and it's definitely for
me to continue."
Meanwhile under fire all-rounder Darren Sammy has been retained as captain of the team, he was a major failure in the World Cup and many pundits of the game feel that his presence in the playing eleven hampers the balance of the team.
