West Indies v Australia – 3rd Test – 3rd Day Recap
Australia 328 & 200/6 (65.0 ov) v West Indies 218 - Australia lead by 310 runs with 4 wickets remaining
Wednesday witnessed a strong batting performance from Australia, who have been a dominating force in the last Test of the three-match series against hosts West Indies. And having won the first Test, followed by a draw in the second, Australia are looking to seal the series by grabbing a win here at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.
Having posted a massive tally of 328 runs on the board by the end of their first innings, the Australians were always going to be tough to beat, while on the other hand, West Indies cannot afford to lose this game as this is their last chance for glory.
However, they failed to overcome Australia’s first innings lead as they could muster only 218 runs in their first innings, as the top order faltered and looked meagre in front of the raging Australian bowling attack.
The day started with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233 coming out for the Windies in order to add more runs to their overnight tally of 165 runs.
Rampaul departed quickly after scoring an innings of 31 runs, leaving the veteran Chanderpaul to face the Aussie onslaught. However, the stylish batsman was provided an epic support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KAJ-Roach-c1758, who stood defiant and secured his end, giving Chanderpaul maximum deliveries to face.
Finally after exhibiting pure craftsmanship, Chanderpaul fell after scoring 68 runs off 164, helping his side amass 218 runs on the board.
This was quo for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to make their move as the batsmen came out in order to bolster an unbeatable total by the end of their second innings.
However, with 17 runs on the board, the side lost their first wicket when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 fell after scoring an innings of 11 runs.
This saw the demise of star all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558, who after facing 13 deliveries perished on a tally of five runs.
Seeing the back of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326, the Windies sought this as a great omen and were hoping to put further pressure on the tourists by grabbing a few more wickets.
However, this was not to be as EJM Cowan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 bowling line-up.
The duo steered their side to a total of 112, before Cowan fell after scoring an innings 55 runs.
It was then time for Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, to dawn on the crease and forge another impressive partnership with his former skipper Ponting as the two took the score to 168 runs before the demise of Ponting, who walked back to the pavilion after scoring an innings of 57 runs.
At stumps, the Aussies finally managed to amass 200 runs for the loss of six wickets with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 standing unbeaten on four runs.
