http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746: Darren Sammy laments the loss in series opener – Cricket News Update
Australia draws first blood against the West Indies in the five match ODI series. The tourists won the opening fixture played at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent by 64-runs. The home team were chasing a target of 205, but crumbled to 140-runs in
32.2 overs.
West Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382, felt dejected after the loss. West Indies were going along nicely at one stage with 97-runs on the board and with seven wickets in hand, but they lost six wickets within a span of just seven runs and handed the Aussies
an easy victory.
Lamenting the loss in the series opener, Sammy said, “We are very disappointed. Losing six wickets for seven runs set us back a little bit.”
Despite the poor show in the first game, Sammy remained upbeat about his side’s chances in the series and hopes that they will bounce back as the series progresses.
He said, “Hopefully we can bounce back in the second match. We have two more games here, we have a history of getting better as a series goes on.”
The Australian team continues to rise under the captaincy of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978. The Aussies not only defended a low total but they also won the game by a reasonable margin.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 claims that the tourists were always confident about their chances in the game, as they knew it was not an easy pitch to score on. The interim skipper praised the Australian bowlers saying that they all bowled with great responsibility.
He said “We knew it was an average score and knew it should be enough if we bowled well. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/XJ-Doherty-c2804 came back really
nicely when he changed ends. All the bowlers were good today.”
The second match of the ODI series will be played at the very same venue on Sunday, March 18.
