West Indies v Bangladesh: 1st Test – Rain forces no play on day 2 – Cricket News Update
Persistent overnight rain and damp outfield have ruled out the second day’s play between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zahur-Ahmed-c98518 Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong in Bangladesh on Saturday, October 22, 2011.
The hosts ended day one on a very positive note, scoring 255 runs for the loss of four wickets. The team’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045 was unbeaten on 68 until stumps and would have been looking forward to reaching three figures on day two.
However, the weather conditions in Bangladesh did not prove to be ideal for cricket. Although rain had stopped in the morning, the outfield remained damp and the poor drainage system at the stadium did not help the cause.
Earlier, Bangladesh had won the toss and opted to bat. The pitch was extremely good for batting, as it was hard and dry. Things might be a bit different now with plenty of rain on day two, but there was no assistance for the bowlers yesterday.
The hosts’ opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640 got settled in the middle.
The former looked quite impressive, but sustained an injury and was retired hurt for 21 runs off 18 balls.
Middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raqibul-Hasan-c84039 offered solid support to Tamim, as the pair put on 52 runs. However, the latter got out after an impressive outing. He scored 52 runs with the help of five boundaries.
Raqibul missed out on a half-century by nine runs and had to take a long walk back to the pavilion for 41 runs with the help of three fours.
The innings was then carried forward by Mushfiqur and Shakib-Al-Hasan, as the pair put together 79 runs for the fourth wicket partnership.
Shakib got out after contributing 40 runs to the total, but the team’s skipper remained unbeaten on 68 until close of play.
All-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 was the pick of the bowlers for his side, picking up a couple of wickets in the day.
