West Indies v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 take last stand - 3rd Day’s Recap
At the end of the third day’s play between India and the West Indies, the hosts are just 195 runs away from handing the world champions a defeat in the first test off a three-match series.
With three wickets down, the Windies have two days to reach the tally.  If Darren Sammy’s men don’t fumble they should reach the target without any hassle.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, India, after taking a lead of 164 runs with seven wickets in hand started the innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 on 14-runs, aiming to post a mammoth total for the West Indians to run after.
In the fourth over of the day, the Indians suffered an early loss when Kohli edged a delivery bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carlton-Baugh-c49264. The batsman walked back after adding only a run in his tally.
However, on the other end, the veteran Dravid looked well focussed and solid as ever, after Kohli it was Suresh Raina’s turn to have a go at Darren Sammy’s bowlers but he couldn’t score enough as he departed after making only 27 runs off 53 deliveries. He
was caught by Sammy at slip, off a sensational delivery by Devendra Bishoo.
Then it was time for the skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820, to come to the crease, and with him coming out to bat, Dravid must have taken a sigh of relief, hoping to see an end to the falling wicket saga.
However, Dhoni seemed troubled against the West Indian bowlers and could only manage to score 16 runs before getting caught on the last delivery of the 67th over, at square-leg by Edwards, off a ball bowled by Bishoo. The youngster has certainly
become a fine addition in the West Indian squad and is fast becoming a bowler to reckon with.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453, who had earlier played a belligerent innings of 70, in India’s first innings, failed to impress the second time around as he lost his wicket cheaply after adding just five runs in the total tally, as he was adjudged leg-before wicket off
Sammy.
With wickets falling all around him, Dravid kept his nerve and managed to pull off a remarkable innings of 112 runs, which actually put his side in a comfortable position. He was the last Indian to lose his wicket after getting caught at mid-on by Sarwan
off a delivery bowled by the devastating Bishoo.
Coming out to bat, the hosts needed 326 runs to win and from the way things started, Sammy could not have asked for anything else, as his batsmen, for the first time in the tournament against India, managed to give a reasonably solid start as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-Barath-c886
scored 38 runs while the dangerous http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lendl-Mark-Platter-Simmons-c72458 smacked 27.
On the last delivery of the 11th over, Barath was the first to lose his wicket as he gave an edge straight to Raina at third slip off a delivery bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143.
In the next over, Sarwan departed without scoring a run after he gave a catch to Kohli at gully off a delivery by the lanky http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566. After getting this wicket, India had their tails up and were raring to have a go at the batsmen.
In the 16th over Sharma trapped Simmons right in front of stumps convincing the umpire to give the batsman leg-before wicket. The Indians were overwhelmed with the joy of removing the batsman who could have caused trouble in the innings.
However, later in the day, the Indians were prevented from making anymore inroads as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Michael-Bravo-c52477 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul stood defiant against the bowling onslaught of the Indians. At the end of the day’s play Bravo was on 30 while Chanderpaul was batting
on 24-runs.
If the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 want to win, then this pair will have to score the majority of the runs required on the fourth day.
