West Indies v India –1ST Test – India slam the West Indies- Day 4 Recap
After giving cricket fans four astounding days of Test Cricket, the Indians overcame the West Indians by defeating them in the first match at Kingston, Jamaica in a series of three-matches.
After needing a mere 195 runs on the fourth day, the Windies looked well set to take an early lead in the series as they had two days to reach the tally with only three wicket down.
Beginning the day for the West Indies, it was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 who came out on the field to cruise their overnight partnership as they were the ones who actually halted the Indian bowlers’ onslaught on the third day, giving the hosts
a fighting chance for the fourth day.
Bravo and Chanderpaul looked in impeccable form as they toyed with the Indian pace and spin attack, clearly trying to play a game of nerves against a well built bowling side. Both batsmen exhibited some fine stroke playing as they starved the Indians from
gobbling any more wickets.
As the day progressed, it seemed the two were going to take their side across the finish line. The batsmen tactfully crafted the second highest partnership in the match as they posted 68-runs in the fourth wicket partnership. It was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s spinner Harbhajan
Singh and middle-order batsman Suresh Raina who piled up maximum runs in the seventh wicket partnership as they posted 146 runs together in India’s first innings.
Keeping the performance of Singh and Raina in mind, perhaps Bravo and Chanderpaul were also aiming to do the same, however, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379, had other plans for the hosts. The cricketer,
who is clearly among the top wicket takers in the current Indian outfit, bowled a breathtaking delivery that shattered Bravo’s stumps just when things were almost creeping out of India’s grasp.
Bravo departed after posting 41-runs on the board and becoming the highest wicket taker for his side in the second innings. With Bravo out of the way, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 only had Chanderpaul to worry about. However, Kumar in his next over got rid of Chanderpaul
as well, when the batsman was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539 at covers. The veteran played a well tamed innings of 30-runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Baugh-c1293 went on a duck, this was certainly a bad omen for the home side as hope of a victory was slipping right from underneath them.
Soon after Baugh, skipper Sammy also lost his wicket after scoring 25-runs. He was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BP-Nash-c1183 who had stayed on the wicket after having faced 36 deliveries also failed to come to terms with the pitch conditions and lost his wicket after scoring nine runs.
In some last ditch heroics, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566 as the batsman gave an edge to Dhoni behind stumps. His wicket caused a little on-field drama,
when he questioned the height of the ball. However, the umpire deemed the delivery legal and stuck to his decision, eventually the batsman had to walk back. With him gone there wasn’t much the last batsmen could do to save their side.
The youngster Devendra Bishoo was the last man to lose his wicket after scoring 26 runs. He was bowled by Raina. At the end, the Windies could only post 262 runs on the board.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 was named as the man of the match for his classy innings of 40 runs in the first innings and then 112 runs in the second innings.
The two sides will now lock horns on 28, Jun, 2011 at Bridgetown, in the second Test of the series which will be a do or die situation for the home side.
