West Indies were bowled out for 204 in their first outing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on the third and final Test match, at the Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica, on Thursday, July 7, 2011.
There were a couple of good performances by the home team’s batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carlton-Baugh-c49264. Both scored half-centuries in the innings, but failed to get their team out of trouble completely.
India had the upper hand, courtesy their tall seamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566, who grabbed five wickets in the first innings.
However, this was just the half job done for the number one Test team in the world, as they had to cope with the dicey conditions in the Caribbean. The pitch had eased out for batting, but there was still some assistance for the bowlers in it.
Although India are considered to be one of the best batting sides in the world, the team failed to reach 300 in the first two Test matches. They were too good to miss out for another time, piling up 347 runs this time around in their first innings of the
final Test.
However, no batsmen in the visitors’ innings managed to reach three figures in the match. The highest score came from their captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820, who finally found some form after missing out in the previous two games. The wicketkeeper batsman collected 74
runs in his outing.
The Men in Blue had to bat just four overs on the second day’s play, which they survived comfortably. Their openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Vijay-c1867 resumed the innings from 8/0 on the third day on Friday, July 8.
The latter was unable to make most of the good batting conditions and was dismissed after collecting just five runs. He was followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229, who also failed to make an impression and was dismissed for five, leaving India in a spot of bother at 18/2.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vangipurappu-Venkata-Sai-Laxman-c94905 and Mukund steadied the ship for their team. They put together 98 runs for the third wicket partnership, guiding their side to take firm control of the game.
Mukund’s resistance finally came to an end after he brought up the first half-century of his career. He got out after scoring 62 runs and was followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737, who had an unimpressive debut series. The promising youngster was sent back to the pavilion
after adding 30 runs to the total.
Laxman was the next man to follow after contributing 56 runs to the total. India were struggling at that stage with five wickets down for 172 runs on the board.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539 and Dhoni collected 103 runs for the sixth wicket stand, putting the opposition on the back foot. They scored 50 and 74 in their respective knocks, guiding India to 347.
