West Indies v India - 3rd Test match - Part 3 - Second Innings Analysis of West Indies
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 gained a terrific first-innings lead of 143 runs against West Indies in the final Test match of the three-match series, at the Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica on the Caribbean soil on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
The visitors collected 347 runs in their first outing and were in a commanding position. They would have been hoping for a comfortable win, as the Caribbean kings had struggled to post a decent score throughout the series.
There were almost two complete days of cricket left and it appeared as a result would be possible despite the loss of most of the day-one due to rain.
However, the hosts fought back hard, scoring 322 runs in their second innings. None of their batsmen had scored a century in the entire series, but they managed to do so in their final outing.
Veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Anton-Edwards-c71510, who brought up his maiden ton of the career. He got out after scoring 110 runs, but put his team in a very safe position.
The playing conditions were far more better compared to the first day, as batting was a touch easier. However, the spinners got some assistance off the wicket on the fourth and fifth day’s play, which made life difficult for the batsmen.
Kieran Pollard proved to be a total failure, as he was dismissed cheaply for the second time in the match. He didn’t look comfortable at all in the middle and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just four runs to the total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-Barath-c886 was also unable to make an impression in this Test match, as he was dismissed for six this time around. He scored an impressive half-century in the first innings of the first Test, but failed to get going after that.
Promising left-handed batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386, was also not able to rescue his team from trouble, getting out for 10.
The hosts were in deep trouble at that stage of the innings, but bounced back in the game, courtesy a superb century partnership between Chanderpaul and Edwards. The pair played mature cricket, collecting 161 runs for the fourth wicket partnership.
Edwards managed to reach his century on debut and got out after scoring an impressive 110 runs. The lower-order failed miserably and the Windies were yet again in a spot of bother.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fidel-Henderson-Edwards-c57010 offered tremendous support to Chanderpaul and the pair put together a crucial partnership of 65 runs for the ninth wicket. The tail-ender was finally dismissed on the final day’s play after contributing 30 runs to the total.
Chanderpaul remained unbeaten on 116, coming back in form just at the right time. His effort gave the hosts a solid lead of 179 runs in the match, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 ended up with 322 runs.
Wily off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453 picked up four wickets for his side in the innings, but failed to go through the defences of Chanderpaul.
