In the second match of the ongoing five-match One Day International (ODI) series between the West Indies and India, the home side was beaten by seven wickets in a rain affected match that was played at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
This was the second consecutive defeat in the series by the West Indies as they are finding it extremely difficult to tackle a second string Indian side, which has come to the Caribbean without the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820, Zaheer
Khan, and, Yuvraj Singh.
Before the match, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468, the skipper of the West Indian side, had hoped for a better show from his team and had pledged to get back in the series by taking the second game.
However, results again show that West Indies cricket still needs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376 work to be done before they can pose a serious threat to other teams.
In today’s game after winning the toss, Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 have a formidable batting line-up and it is better to put pressure on the batsmen rather than on
a vulnerable bowling attack.
The West Indian openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Anton-Edwards-c71510, provided a solid start for their team as the two batsmen clogged Indian pacers right from the word go.
However, in the 13th over it was Edwards, who lost his wicket by getting caught behind off a delivery bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871. The batsman departed after scoring 25-runs off 28-deliveries.
Next in was veteran, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ramnaresh-Ronnie-Sarwan-c83880, who is trying to re-establish his place, in the national team, after going through a bad patch of form. This was probably his lucky day as he, together with the phenomenal Simmons became a problematic duo in front of
the Indian bowlers, who were beginning to lose patience against the batsmen.
The two exhibited some fine strokes as they toyed with the Indian bowling arsenal while scoring boundaries at will.
However, it was the last delivery of the 27th over that finally broke this lethal partnership as Simmons was stumped on an outgoing delivery bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YK-Pathan-c2815. This was a sensational moment for India as they knew that they had finally got
their man.
Simmons went back to the pavilion after playing a commendable knock of 53 runs off 84 deliveries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 was then the next to depart as he was stumped while going after a delivery outside the off stump, bowled by Pathan. Samuels could only add 36 runs to the total tally.
Finally in the 41st over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MM-Patel-c1987 removed Sarwan as he ended up giving a high catch to Yusuf Pathan at deep square leg. He scored 56 runs off 90 balls and was the highest scorer from his side at the end of the innings. With 240 on the board,
Sammy looked comfortable and fancied his team’s chances of defeating the tourists.
However, the Indians once again showed their dominance by cracking the West Indies bowlers all over the park as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Ajay-Patel-c80778 (56) and Virat Kohli (81) took the game away from the hosts early on.
A second interruption due to rain brought the Duckworth http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Close-c51347 for India, as they required 83 runs from 90 deliveries.
Nonetheless, skipper Suresh Raina (26), and, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Rohit-Sharma-c80557 (7), cruised to victory in the end. Kohli was named man of the match for his sensational contribution with the bat.
The two sides are expected to face each other in the third One Day International on 11 June, 2011, at North Sound.
