Thursday, July 26: At tea on the second day of the first Test between hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and tourists New Zealand, the Windies trail by 279 runs with ten wickets in hand in their first innings, in a match that is being played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
After bowling out http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 and KOA Powell were dropped early in the innings.
However, the two phenomenal batsmen then punished the opposition by staggering an impressive opening stand of 72 runs in 14 overs before tea.
West Indies now need to carry this momentum till stumps in order to create some sort of pressure on the Kiwis.
On the other hand, New Zealand need to steadfast and maintain their line and length in order to taste success on the West Indies pitches.
The day began with the tourists resuming their first innings from a total of 232 runs for the loss of four wickets.
New Zealand fans had high hopes with their overnight batsmen N Wagner and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KS-Williamson-c1813 to get them through, however, after the addition of only a run in the overnight score, New Zealand saw the fall of Wagner, who failed to add a run to his tally of four.
Williamson was then joined by DG Brownlie, as the two batsmen tried to counter the West Indies bowlers, who had their tails up in order to wrap-up the New Zealand innings.
After taking the score to 273 runs, Wagner also hit the showers, after he was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KAJ-Roach-c1758 on a score of 19.
Brownlie was then the next batsman to walk back to the pavilion, as he departed after hitting 23 runs off his bat.
The innings of 39 runs near the end of the innings by DAJ Bracewell was a breath of fresh air for New Zealand as they finished off on a respectable total.
From West Indies, SP Narine was the best bowler, as he devastated New Zealand by grabbing five wickets in the innings.
