Question:

West London area to move?

Hello guys,

we're about to move houses but have absolutely no idea where. So far we've been living in Hoxton and Camden, ideally we'd like to move somewhere in West London where rent prices are not unreal, transport is decent and it's safer than other areas. Naturally we don't expect to find something good and cheap (although that would be fab LOL) but at least something cheaper than Marylebone ex or in the likes of Camden but less noisy. And with a decent transport (even if tube is far then at least with a number of buses going to the city centre). Any thoughts?

Many thanks.

  1. Wandsworth, Chelsea and fulham are the ideal places to live but prices...wow lol, it's ridiculous-u have to be a millionaire- try tho, you might find something

  2. You'll find prices are better in Twickenham just a nice walk along the river from fabulous Richmond with theatre, green, Kew Gardens and the tube. Twickenham is just one stop on the railway to Richmond where you have other lines...tube,North London line to Hampstead (your mates in Camden) and lines into Waterloo and Victoria. Good buses too, realistic shops, pubs by the river and walks up down and across the river. Boats to Kingston and Hampton Court.

I researched this all very well when I was in your position and I lived on Primrose Hill.

    Cheers Dag

  3. It would be worth you looking around Harrow. It's zone 5 but Harrow-on-the-Hill station (the main tube/rail/bus station for Harrow town) is on the Metropolitan line and is only 18 mins from Baker Street during rush-hours (an express tube service runs then) and about 35 mins at other times.

Transport is a major plus in the Harrow area: it's also on the Piccadilly (South Harrow), Central (Northolt and South Ruislip), Bakerloo (Harrow & Wealdstone) lines. Makes getting in and out from town much easier, especially if one or other line is acting up.

Another reason to look at Harrow is that a large number of new-build blocks of flats are coming to completion in various places across the borough: with that sudden increase in capacity, it's definitely going to be a buyer's / tenant's market in months to come, so your rent is going to stretch a whole load further than in Camden.

Apart from flats, properties are mostly Victorian/Edwardian.

I jumped onto UpMyStreet.com to get an idea of rents etc really near the station and shops. Here you are:  http://www.upmystreet.com/renting-proper...

Harrow has a sizeable shopping area with a Vue cinema, the regular department/chain stores and a stack of bars and restaurants, and also lots of green space around for enjoying the kind of weather we're having today.

Crime levels are good for London.

Yes (if you're wondering) -- it is one of the places I know well -- I work there quite a bit and am currently keeping an eye on rental prices for a couple of friends who need to move to London.

    =)

Anyway, hope that's a help to you.

  4. How about Wembley? The living expenses there are not so high.

  5. Finchley Road and West Hampstead in NW London are fantastic areas, close to the city with great tube, overland and bus links, shopping and entertainment at the O2 centre and loads of places to visit like Hampstead Heath, Regents Park and Kensington really close by.
