West Virginia University Mountaineers head to spring training – Volleyball news
The women’s volleyball squad of West Virginia University is set to start the spring training this Saturday.
The Mountaineers will play two matches against the Pittsburgh Panthers, while the Fitzgerald Field House will set up the field of play.
In the coming two matches, Mountaineers will have freshman Brittany Sample and junior Arielle Allen as new players. Both of them joined the team in January after attaining success in the trails. Sample comes from Hebron High School in Texas, while Allen
was previously attached with Western Wyoming Community College team. The training matches will give them a good chance to prove their endeavours and to grab some attention.
Speaking of the team composition and addition of the new players, the head coach of Mountaineers Jill Kramer said, “Right now we have six players for the spring. Two of them are completely new to our system. Brittany is setting and Arielle was an AVCA and
NJCAA second team All-American as a middle blocker. We are moving Arielle to the outside because we think she has the tools to do that. She has a good size and is physical enough to be good enough on the outside in the Big 12. A lot of the spring for us is
them working into our systems and us learning about them as players.”
In the next run, the Mountaineers will return to action on March 24 when they will take on Patriots at the George Mason. Likewise, WVU will host the team from James Madison University in April. The spring training will be completed at the end of April with
last Alumni match on April. Afterwards, the team will continue the preparation for regular season games and the summer camps will get underway.
The head coach Kramer has great many plans for the 2012 season. She is focused to take full advantage of spring training and drill. She wants to finalise the final set of players for the 2012 team. The friendly matches will help the coach to see players’
performances and their skills on the centre court.
