Westerly High boys volleyball team loses to Cranston West in a sweep on Friday
The Westerly High boys volleyball team did not achieve what they wanted to as they lost Friday’s match to Cranston West in a clean sweep.
Despite the fact that the Falcons were able to take the first set of the match in a smothering fashion, the Bulldogs did not lose heart. The second and third sets of the game were fiercely competed by both the teams and the spectators were well rewarded
for leaving their comfortable couches back home in order to see the match.
By the time that the Falcons were soaring high on their well-earned win and the Bulldogs were walking out of the court cradling their disappointment, the score board showed the following final set scores: 25-9, 25-21 and 25-23.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they have been unable to secure any win in this season so far. However, the number of losses that they have incurred amount to be four. If the Division II-South statistics of the Bulldogs are looked at, it also shows the same
result with zero wins and four defeats.
In contrast to this, both the overall season record as well as the II-South statistics of the Falcons shows a much better performance than their opponents. The Falcons have been able to register a total number of four wins in this season so far.
As opposed to this, their number of defeats amount to be one so far. In the II-South matches, the number of times that the Falcons have been victorious is four. They have been able to secure these wins at the expense of losing no match at all.
The Falcons did not take much time to assert their dominance in the first set of the game. They were playing in full form and kept on hammering relentless kills on the Bulldogs. The level of skill that the Bulldogs showed in the opening match was at best
amateurish. They could not significantly challenge the Falcons, who made a quick job of the first set by winning it at 25-9.
The second set of the game saw the Bulldogs being rejuvenated. They were able to rally themselves together and meet the onslaught of the Falcons in a competitive manner. Even though they brought the match close, the Bulldogs could not bag a win and lost
the second set at21-25.
Winning the first two sets of the game had got the Falcons going who also secured the third and final set of the game at 25-23.
Even though they lost the match, the Bulldog coach, Tami Morrone had the following words of praise for the team, “They didn't just go back on their heels and put their heads down. They're a good group of guys and they picked each other up.”
