A superb all-round performance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 (SA) by 129 runs in a Sheffield Shield match in Perth. WA set a 378-run target for SA to win the game, but the visitors were bowled-out for 248 in
their final innings.
Earlier, WA won the toss and elected to bat first. The wicket at Perth offers some bounce and pace to the fast bowlers, but overall it was a very good batting track. The hosts took full advantage of the batting friendly conditions and reached 324 in their
first innings. Although WA lost their openers early, their first-drop http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Pomersbach-c1856 batted well and scored a brilliant 82 runs for his team.
The middle-order of the team got starts but failed to capitalise. Marcus North, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Ronchi-c1857 and Coulter-Nile scored 37 and 46 runs
respectively. Coulter-Nile missed out on a half-century but became the second highest scorer for his team in the first innings.
SA debutant Nathan Lyon was exceptional with the ball. The 20-year-old off-spinner took four wickets for his team. He got good support from Jake Haberfield, who took three wickets in the first innings. In reply, SA started their innings nicely with some
useful knocks from the top-order batsmen. However, the middle-order collapsed and the team was bundled-out for 271 runs.
Although, SA lost http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Klinger-c76093 played exceptionally for their side. Klinger top scored in the first innings with a brilliant century. He was out after scoring 100 runs. The only other player who scored more
than 50 runs was Smith. He scored 66 runs before getting out.
After the middle-order collapse, wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ryan-Duffield-c2387 took four wickets for WA and Coulter-Nile supported
him with two wickets in the innings.
WA started their second innings with a 53-run lead and they got a good start from Harris, who scored 45 runs. The middle-order also took advantage of the good start and the batsmen extended their side's lead to 377 runs. Beaton remained unbeaten with a brilliant
knock of 72 runs and got good support from his captain Marcus North. The WA captain scored 63 runs for his team before getting out.
First innings top-scorer Pomersbach also played a vital role as he scored a useful 40 runs. A cameo of 35 runs from Coulter-Nile helped WA to score the same total, which the team achieved in their first innings. Peter George took four wickets for his team
in the third innings of the match and was well supported by Lyon, who grabbed two wickets.
Chasing 378 was always going to be a tough task for the visitors, but their openers got them off to a good start. Smith scored his second half-century of the match but was eventually out after scoring 65 runs for his team. However, three ducks from Klinger,
Aaron O’Brien and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 put the team on the back-foot.
Manou gave some hope to his team with a superb knock of 79 runs, but his effort was in vain as none of the SA batsmen were able to support him. Coulter-Nile took four wickets in the last innings of the match, and his all-round performances in the match with
six wickets and 81 runs earned him the player-of-the-match award.
