Western Australia v Tasmania: Sheffield Shield – Tasmania’s Innings Recap
Tasmania trail by 34 runs with five wickets remaining against Western http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 Cricket Association (WACA) Ground, Perth in Australia on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.
The hosts were put into bat and managed 176 runs in their first innings. Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tom-Beaton-c94177, who
contributed 32 runs to the total.
In reply, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 was batting on 49 and will start the proceedings for his team on day two.
The visitors started their innings with Nick Kruger and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan, but the pair failed to make a solid impression.
Cowan was the first wicket to fall in the day for Tasmania. He managed just five runs in his short stay at the crease.
Kruger looked good, but was unable to make most of the start to his innings. He gave his wicket away after adding 27 runs to the total with the help of four boundaries.
Two wickets had fallen down for 46 runs on the board, but veteran Australian batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 and Bailey threatened to score a big partnership for the third wicket.
However, they only put on 33 runs together before Ponting gave his wicket away. The stylish right-handed player has been performing well in One Day International (ODI) cricket in the recent past, but has struggled to perform in the longer version of the
game.
The 36-year-old scored 33 runs with the help of five boundaries. He would have been livid with his performance, but will be eying to make amends once he comes out to bat for the second time in the match.
The next wicket to fall in the visitors’ innings was Mark Cosgrove, who scored just 11 runs in his short stay at the wicket. He was followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643, who managed four runs in an unimpressive outing.
Tasmania has lost half their side for 126 runs on the board, but Bailey was still out there steady as a rock. He was just one short of a half-century when the day came to an end, but will be looking to carry onto the start and make a big one tomorrow.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Butterworth-c1850 was also unbeaten on eight and will be eying to hang in the middle for as long as possible.
WA’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Hogan-c1956 bowled well in the day and used the conditions to his advantage. He took three wickets before the day was called off.
