  1. yes have cowboys and indians and have the cowboys shoot the indians and steal there land and then move them into camps and then take the camps away cuz they are too nice and then finish it up with small pox blankets. fun for all ages

  2. Send a note home or post a note that kids should dress as a cowboy or cowgirl. Depending on whether or not it is in the budget, you could have pony rides or a petting zoo.  Teach the little ones how to do a little square dance.

My daughter loves the book Barnyard Dance, by Sandra Boynton. We do it as a song, which we now both know by heart.

As far as an activity - buy some plain bandanas in different colors, then let them paint the bandanas with sponges in shapes like cowboy boots and cactuses.

You could also use wrapping paper tubes and let them make their own "horses." Brown yarn for manes and tails....

For lunch you could do a "cowboy cookout" and eat "just like" the cowboys did with beans and franks, little corn on the cobs, etc.

  3. Maybe you could let the children color coloring pages of western pictures and have cookies in a shape of a cowboy boot

  4. We had a western day at the elementary where I work.  We did stick horse races and played horseshoes.  Here's a sight with some neat ideas: http://www.hummingbirded.com/rodeo-weste...

  5. You can tie in farm, horses (riding), ooohhhh...go to the dollar store and buy those hankie things and you can put it on their heads/around their necks...take some photos...you'll impress other teachers, parents...your supervisor...

My son went to a birthday party YESTERDAY and they went horse back riding...their lootbag was SOOOO cool...everything horse related...pencils...stickers etc...I won't expand b/c it looks like you're looking for different ideas.

Anyways, just keep it simple..and when you are googling look up other things that are related to the western theme such as horses.Good Luck (and nice timing on your question...lol...if you want me to expand...e-mail me...no prob)

  6. Get the children to come in dressed up as cowboys and cowgirls

    colouring pages
