Ok me and a friend are disagreeing on something. he said 2 36.7 gig wd raptor raid 0 with 1.5 sata transfer is faster than a 300 gig wd viloci raptor raid 0 with 3.0 sata transfer and faster read/write times.

he said since it has less to read it will read the information faster but i say since the newer ones have faster read/ rite times and a faster interface is faster with loading OS\Programs\and games

  1. The veloci raptors are the fastest drives you can get at 10000RPM and with seek times at like 2ms i think he is wrong man.

  2. incorrect, the 3.0 sata becuase although the 2 36.7 is almost as fast, its being bottlenecked by the 1.5 sata transfer. plus the 300Gig uses smaller" bits on the disks surface traveling faster than the larger bits in the 36.7Gb

  3. He is wrong.  The 3.0 SATA setup is faster.

Remember, it doesn't matter if its a 36.7gig or a 300gig hard drive... the files for Windows and the games are exactly the same size.  That's the theory.

In a practical sense, it might work out differently because you have to consider the thousands of things that make a rig unique, including the health of the drive, its fragmentation, what programs are running in the background, etc, etc.  The only way to truly settle this is to benchmark the two.
