Question:

Western Digital hard drive not recognised?

The hard drive on my HP Presario C300 has failed.I have put in a Western Digital WD1200BEVS 120GB 2.5" SATA Hard Drive.I have put in a Windows Xp Home disk to format the drive, but my computer says that windows cannot find the drive.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  1. First make sure that the jumpers are set correctly on the hard drive itself.

    You can go into the setup (during boot process) and check to see if there is something you may need to change (setting).

    You can Google your question or go to the Western Digital website for further info on that subject.


  2. man I Have the same problem almost. I have  a WD external mybook 500 gb hard drive, it was working find until last week and now the computer does not recognize it at all, it doesnt even show up in my computer, i think my power supply failed, cuz it will turn on for a sec and start spinning then after 1 sec it will stop and the green light will go off and it will stop spinning.

    i suggest you contact WD toll free customer support and ask them.

    Im kinda,.. upset with WD these days.  

  3. Check out what the BIOS has to say about the hard drive, it may need to be reset to reflect the change of hard drive.
