Western Force captain Nathan Sharpe sidelined for six weeks due to surgery
Nathan Sharpe the Western Force captain has been ruled out for the coming six weeks after enduring a laparoscopic surgery on Saturday to refurbish a hernia. The medical staff of Western Force immediately had the procedure finished to give him every hope
to be ready for the start of the Super Rugby season 2011.
The head coach Richard Graham spoke to his website and affirmed that the actions were taken abruptly because they didn’t want any kind of delay. He said, “Nathan first brought it to our attention on Friday morning and we acted decisively to have him operated
on Saturday.”
Though Graham is not so happy with the long break but is also thankful that injury won’t prolong in future. He added, “We believe we've given ourselves the best chance to have Nathan available for the first competition game against the Queensland Reds on
Feb 20.”
Nathan Sharpe is already on the verge of getting fit after being released from the local hospital and will be following a focused course recommended by doctors, designed to get him back to what he does the best before it’s too late.
The coach elaborated about the medical developments regarding the case and felt satisfied with the pace of things. He said, “Our medical and strength and conditioning staff has mapped out a return to play program which will see Nathan make a progression
from walking to light cardio then to training and ultimately full contact,”
Under the guidance of such elite medical staff Nathan Sharpe has been witnessed to be in implausible form and achieved career finest body composition score.
Western Force will be playing trial matches kicking off in two weeks and coaches are looking forward to call on the services of Tom Hockings, youngster Phoenix Battye and Sam Wykes. Ben McCalamn is also expected to be called on for joining the squad; after
all he is no more an alien to play lock after pairing with Sharpe on plentiful fixtures last term.
Graham said, “Nathan's injury is just part and parcel of sport and you just need to deal with each case individually.” Force is privileged to have depth in their defense and second row and is confident to perform well in the absence of their back bone Nathan
Sharpe.
